Becoming a "World Class Missionary" was our training program when I entered the Micronesia Guam Mission.  Being World Class meant we understood what it took to be an effective missionary servant of the Lord.  More on this later.

I. Elder Erekson - Strengthening Companionship
     A. Doctrine and Covenants 121:46 - an example of a good companion
          1. Always interested in the welfare of the other
          2. Influence for good
     B. Share motivations, desires ideas, goals help each other achieve
          1. Help the other achieve
          2. Learn to love - 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
     C. Take advantage of companionship inventory
     D. Find the strengths in your companion

II. Elder Hollingsworth
     A. Jacob  4:6 --Let's take it up a notch
     B. Be here to be successful
          1. 1 Corinthians 9:24 - run that ye may obtain
          2. 1 Corinthians 9:25 - mastery: self, language, gospel, companionship inventory
     C. Routine of a World Class Missionary: Sunday Night Companionship Inventory
          1. 1 Corinthians 9:26 - don't beat the air
          2. Set Goals
               i) As a companionship
               ii) personal - share personal goals
               iii) language goals
     D. Pray about the people in our area
     E. Review the week - evaluate goals, evaluate work
     F. Talk about each of our investigator's needs and concerns (open yourself up to revelation)
     G. Express your feelings - when you understand your companion it will help you work together better

In retrospect, Elder Erekson's thoughts on Strengthening Companionships is just as applicable in married life as it was serving as a missionary.  Working on those attributes this week and will get back to you on the results later.

Last Saturday we took the babies to the fair.  Nakeu and I enjoy the fair, and this year the babies enjoyed the rides!

Getting into the Zone Conference notes.

It is not an error that the second talk is listed as "Elder."  It was my first zone conference and I didn't get a real chance to meet any of the other missionaries yet, although everyone showed up at the airport when I finally got on island.  So if anyone remembers who gave this talk, feel free to let me know!

About a week before zone conference all missionaries were given an assigned topic to prepare a 5 minute talk.  It was our responsibility to be prepared, because you didn't know if you would be sharing your talk until it was announced at zone conference.  All other speakers and participants were  informed of their specific assignments.

I. Scriptural Thought: Elder Schofield
     THEME: Doctrine and Covenants 9:7-9 and 1 Nephi 4:6 "How can I pay the price to engage the Spiritual Engine?"
          A. You're greatest work will be yourself
               1. What kind of person are you going to become?
               2. Who are you when you are alone, by yourself?
          B. You can become anything you want
          C. Pay the price to keep your spiritual engine going
               1. By works your works is your faith made perfect
               2. Do all in your power to do your part
               3. Sacrifice - do everything in your power to do the Lord's will, ungrudging
II. Missionary Talks: Doctrine and Covenants 8:2-3 "How does the Spirit communicate with me?"
     A. Sister Garber
          1. Romans 8:9 - we are not after the flesh, but after the spirit
          2. Be ready to act upon the spirit
               i) good studies
               ii) keep yourself open to the promptings of the spirit
     B. Elder
          1. Don't doubt impressions of the spirit.
          2. Galatians 5:22-23
          3. We must be clean vessels - we must have the desire
          4. When we know Christ's teachings, we can teach with power

Father's Day 2013.  No, I did not cook breakfast, lunch or dinner for Nakeu.  Although for lunch I did warm up the frozen corn dogs.  Sundays and sometimes Saturdays are days that Nakeu likes to cook.  But we still did our best to make Nakeu feel special on Father's Day.

Staying Focused and Pictures from the Park

One of the highlights of every transfer (6-week periods that a mission is broken down into) is most definitely Zone Conference.

On Pohnpei, in 2004, there was a north zone and a south zone.

Missions are broken down into small zones, smaller districts and smallest areas.
Each companionship is assigned to an area.
A district is comprised of several areas, headed by a chosen missionary district leader.
A zone is made up of a few districts, headed by a companionship of zone leaders.

Both zones attended the same zone conference.

In the next few posts I'll share more of the notes that I took at this zone conference.

***June 28, 2004 JOURNAL: Zone Conference
          Losing sight of our goals - Sister Pulispher - Florence Chadwick swam to the California Coast.  Stopped less that a half mile from the coast because the fog was so dense that she couldn't see the coast.  Reminds me of my run senior year.  One of the coaches told Thomas Akeo and I that we only had 100 yards to go, so we started to pick up the pace  But because we both weren't wearing our glasses, we couldn't see the finished we thought he was wrong.  So we slowed our pace and began to walk.  Then Mrs. Hansen came up behind us and said "What are you doing walking the last 50 yards?!"  Then we looked and we could see the finish line and ran.  It was that lack of vision that slowed us.  We should we had trusted in what we knew was there.

That was a true story about running without my glasses on.  Never did that again, simply so I wouldn't make the same mistake of slowing down and wrecking a possible great run time.

Yesterday was a local holiday, Kamehameha Day.  It was nice to have Lloyd home from school and all the babies together.  Unfortunately, Nakeu, still had to go into work but that's okay.

We went to the park for a while and the babies hammed it up!
